Event Details:

Come experience the beauty of Jordan Lake in the fall!

For this meetup we will begin with an (optional) litter pick up of the picnic, playground, and beach areas. Bring a grocery bag as a trash bag, grabbers, or gloves. Don’t have those supplies or not comfortable with your kid picking up trash? Your kiddos can help be “spotters” for those with supplies! After we do a little clean up of the areas we all love, we’ll play on the beach, water’s edge and playground for a few hours of unstructured fun. We will provide a large bag of outdoor/sand toys appropriate for all ages - that way there are no awkward moments trying to figure out which toys belong to which families when it’s time to head home.

For older kiddos (7ish +) who are interested, we will have several copies of the North Carolina State Park’s “Junior Ranger” activity guides including printed “Litter Scavenger Hunt” bonus pages! (Want a preview? PDF of the Junior Ranger booklet and PDF of the Litter Scavenger Hunt add-on page) Bring a pen or pencil for your kids who may want to work on these guides. If/when you complete them (doesn’t have to be completed in a single day), you can take them to the park office to be “sworn in” as an official Junior Ranger!

These come-as-you-are Nature Meetups are designed to give kids and their adults minimally-structured time in nature to play, explore, and connect. Our objective is to support all families in expanding their child’s experiences in nature.

What to bring:

  • Grocery bag, grabbers, or gloves (optional)

  • Towel and change of clothes in case kids get wet/decide to take a swim

  • Adults may want to bring something to sit on (towel, picnic blanket, camp chair)

  • Snacks, water

  • Pen or pencil if your child wants to work on a Junior Ranger activity packet

  • No need to bring sand toys! We will provide a large bag of sand toys for everyone to enjoy, that way no one has to worry about which shovel belongs to which family when it is time to leave.

How to find us:
Enter the park and pass the entrance booth (there are no fees to enter at this time of year, so it may be unattended or attended only for campers). After you pass the entrance booth, turn left following signs for the Swim Beach. Park in the large parking lot and follow the paved path down past the basketball court and past the bathroom building. At 12:30pm you will find us in the pinic table area between the bathroom building and the swim beach. After our clean-up activities we will be on the beach and playground!

Weather:
Check back here for any event updates or cancellation notices.

Registration:
Registation is not required for this event - however it always helps us to know roughly how many people to expect and to know which events are more or less popular for future planning. Registration also ensures you will get an email reminder and an email update if anything about the event changes due to weather/other circumstances.
